Cllr Fisher at TownPin launch

Introducing Townpin

March 04, 20262 min read

I'm proud to announce the launch of TownPin—a free, straightforward app (and web tool at townpin.ie). It’s a project I’ve been working on for the past few months to make reporting local issues easier for people in Dundalk. I’ve spoken before about the need for a civic reporting tool for the likes of drains, potholes, fly tipping etc.

TownPin lets you do three simple things:

  • Drop a pin on the map right where the problem is.

  • Pick a category (like blocked drains, damaged footpaths or roads, potholes, broken street lights, litter/dumping, overgrown vegetation, graffiti, burst pipes, or faulty traffic signals).

  • Add a short description, snap a photo if you want, and hit submit.

Cllr Fisher introduces TownPin a new civic reporting app for Dundalk.

The report goes straight to a local councillor, for the time being that’s me. I review it, follow up with the council teams, and chase progress so you don't have to. It's not replacing official channels—use Deadsure for street lights if that's your issue, or the council's environmental lines for bigger complaints—but it fills a real gap for the common maintenance problems that slip through the cracks. Pilotting now, I hope it will provide clear, geolocated, visual reports make it easier for everyone to prioritise and fix things faster.

As a teacher, father, and proud Dundalk man, I know how much these small fixes matter to families, commuters, and our community. Too often, reports get duplicated or forgotten because they're not detailed enough or hard to track. TownPin makes reporting mobile-friendly, quick, and accountable.

It's live now: download the iOS app from the App Store (search "TownPin") or head to townpin.ie on any browser. Easy to use, and completely free, try it out the next time you see a council matter.

Since launching, I've already had a few early reports come in, and I'm following them up with the council. The more people use it, the better we can highlight where the real pressure points are and push for quicker resolutions.

This is about empowering residents—giving you a direct, practical way to have your say and to help map the location and number of issues in our town. If you're in Dundalk and spot something that needs fixing, give TownPin a go. Your report could be the nudge that gets it sorted.
