Park 'n' Stride: An Initiative for Safer School Journeys in Dundalk

Park 'n' Stride is a program in Dundalk designed to reduce traffic congestion around schools by encouraging parents and guardians to park a short distance away and walk the remaining distance with their children. Launched in late 2025 with support from the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce and local council, it aims to improve safety, promote physical activity, and lower emissions.

The initiative is available at no cost. Participants can obtain a free permit sticker, which allows parking for up to one hour during school drop-off (8:30–9:30 AM) and pick-up (1:00–4:00 PM) times at 14 designated car parks in the area.

Benefits of Participating

  • Improved Safety: Reducing vehicles near school entrances helps minimize risks for children and drivers.

  • Health Advantages: The short walk provides an opportunity for daily exercise and fresh air.

  • Environmental Impact: Fewer idling cars contribute to lower pollution levels in the community.

  • Traffic Relief: Easing congestion benefits local roads and nearby businesses.

Feedback from Dundalk families indicates reduced stress around school zones and more efficient mornings.

How to Participate

  1. Register: Contact your child's school or visit the Dundalk Chamber website to apply for the free permit.

  2. Display the Sticker: Place it on your vehicle's windshield.

  3. Select a Parking Spot: Options include McEntee Avenue Car Park, Rogers Car Park on Rampart Road, Dundalk Library, Lidl, Tesco Extra on St Helena's Terrace, Duffy's Carpark at the Longwalk, and others conveniently located that display the blue sign!
