Moorhens and Ducks return to the Ramparts

I was almost as proud my photos of the ducks and moorhens were used in the papers, as seeing the river get cleared!

As reported in the local news: Ducks and moorhens return to the Ramparts River in Dundalk following maintenance work - Louth Live

After flagging the ongoing issues with the Ramparts, I was very pleased to see progress on it in recent weeks. This was on the back of a very constructive conversation with the new CE of Louth CoCo, David Conway.

Ultimately what needs to happen is a regular maintenance plan needs to be put in place and/or changes need to be made to the river to improve flow and stop the build up of vegetation.

An engineering survey conducted in 2022 proposed narrowing the channel in places using berms to improve the river flow at a cost at the time estimated to be around €250,000

This waterway should be an attraction and and asset in the heart of our town, not an eyesore.
